Approvals Board

The EIQA approvals board is represented by a number of individuals that meet quarterly to review audits and assessments and ratify auditor's recommendations. In addition they provide advice on technical and legislative changes. All members are leaders in their respected fields.

Quality Approvals Board

Brian Weakliam

Brian is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and is a Licentiate of the Institute of Bankers. Brian had a successful career as Accountant, Financial Analyst and Corporate Fees Officer with a major international bank. Since 1996 he has been using his technical banking expertise, knowledge of banking systems, and negotiating experience to advise bank clients.

Pat Mulvee

Pat is a chartered accountant with over 20 years experience of leading and implementing successful change impacting on all key business functions; particularly in multinational manufacturing, having held senior management roles in Kingspan Group and Becton Dickinson. Pat has been an EIQA Approvals Board member for almost 10 years.

Pat Mulvee

John Butler

John is an engineer and has worked in a number of multinationals as a process engineer and industrial engineer.He has also worked in a number of management positions in FAS including Manager of the Excellence Through People program which is the National Standard for Human Resource Management. For the last six years John has been an Assessor for the EFQM European Quality Awards.He is a member of the NSAI Quality Management Standards Committee and is the Irish representative on the international group which is developing the Guidelines for the People Aspects of Quality Management Systems. He is currently Director for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) at Engineers Ireland, formerly the Institution of Engineers of Ireland.

Hygiene Approvals Board

Dr. Ronnie Russell

Dr. Ronnie Russell has carried out wide-ranging research on inflammation, anti-tumour vaccines, bioremediation of desert soils and minefields and food-borne pathogens. Currently applying non-toxic electrochemical disinfectants and detergents to food, pharmaceutical and healthcare industries. Worked in environmental consultancy since the 1980s and helped develop Environmental Management Systems Standards such as EMAS and ISO 14000. Now writing e-learning courses on infection control and decontamination for the UK NHS and Irish HSE. Advises Government Departments in Ireland and abroad and has represented Ireland at the UN in relation to Biological Weapons and Toxins since 1996.

Ronnie Russell

David McCleery

Dr David McCleery, Chief Specialist Microbiologist for Safefood. David is responsible for providing scientific and technical advice, developing Safefood's research portfolio and building scientific cooperative mechanisms, in relation to microbiology, on the island of Ireland. He has over 15 years' experience in the area of food microbiology and food safety.

David is branch secretary of the Northern Ireland branch of the Institute of Food Science and Technology and serves on the Northern Ireland Food Advisory Committee and sub-committees of the Society for Applied Microbiology.

David McCleer

Ian Thomas

Ian is an Irish solicitor who practised as a barrister in England and Wales for over ten years. Ian is a specialist regulatory lawyer practising in the areas of food law, health and safety and consumer law. He has advised and appeared in court on behalf of Government departments, local authorities, companies both national and multi-national and individuals.

Ian works with MGA Regulatory Lawyers who provide specialist legal advice to clients across a number of industry sectors on all aspects of EU and Irish regulatory law.

Ian Thomas

John D. Carroll

John D. Carroll has given much of his talent, dedication and time to hospitality industry associations and voluntary bodies. He has been president of the Irish Hotel and Catering Institute and the Restaurants Association of Ireland, vice president of the Federation of European Catering Organisations, chairman of the Association of Irish Contract Caterers and a founder director of CERT.

He is currently chairman of the National Hygiene Partnership and a Trustee of Shannon College of Hotel Management. He is a director of Excellence in Tourism Limited, purchasing advisor for D.M.A UK and facilities consultant for Leopardstown Racecourse.
